ST. THERESE'S MONASTERY
64 Bell Road, Clement Town, Dehradun – 248 002
St. Therese's Monastery [Novitiate] at Clement Town, Dehradun, is the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream of our fathers over the years to have a Novitiate of our own. The Novitiate which started on rented premises at Thakurdwara, Palampur (H P), got shifted to Una in May 1993 and further got transferred to Dehradun, the Capital of Uttarakhand, as the permanent destination. Rt. Rev. Patrick Nair, Bishop of Meerut, blessed the house which had already existed in the newly purchased property, on 14 November 1997 and the novitiate was continued in it till 2000. Rev. Fr. Martin Panamthanam, (Provincial, Malabar Pro.), Rev. Fr. Benedict Pulikattil (Regional Vicar), Rev. Fr. Francis Kiliyampurackal (Superior and Master), many other OCD fathers, Fr. E. J. Mathew, Parish Priest, and sisters from the neighbouring communities witnessed the blessing and participated in the ceremonies. As in most cases it was the undaunted spirit of determination and earnestness of Rev. Fr. Ambrose that brought us to this place at Clement Town, and the deal was settled with the help of Fr. E. J. Mathew, (Parish Priest), Shri. V. P. Natyal (Advocate) and CFMSS sisters.
August 8, 2000 was a golden day in the history of our novitiate, as the newly constructed building was blessed by Rt. Rev. Bp. Patrick Nair, Bishop of Meerut, in the presence of Rev. Fr. Francis Kiliyampurackal, Reg. Vicar, Fr. Varghese Thypodeth, superior and master, and Fr. Mark Nediyakalayil, who supervised the construction. The presence of many OCD fathers, parish priests of Dehradun and men and women religious from various communities added life and colour to the celebration. Over the years many OCD fathers made their generous contribution as Superiors, Masters and as members of the novitiate community in forming many young Carmelites of Delhi Province and Ranchi Delegation in their prime formation period. Our priests render yeoman service in the parish and in the religious communities around through their pastoral ministry.
