ST. THOMAS MONASTERY,
Padavarad, Ollur P.O., Thrissur – 680 306, Kerala
St. Thomas Monastery, Padavarad, Ollur, was founded by the Malabar Province for the purpose of vocation promotion since the Province did not have any house in the Diocese of Trichur. A block of seven acres of land was bought in March 1993, and a monastery was founded on 07 December 1994 through a decree of canonical erection issued by Rt. Rev. Joseph Kundukulam, Bishop of Trichur, on the request of Rev. Fr. Cyriac Neerackal, Provincial of Malabar Province. Fr. Joseph Mary constructed a small house there, and Fr. Norbert Vazhayil became the first Father-in-charge.
On request, Malabar Province handed over this Monastery to the Punjab Mission as a mission house on 20 February 2000. On 06 September 2002 the foundation stone for the present monastery was laid under the supervision of Fr. Joseph Mattam, the first superior from the Punjab Mission. On 18 June 2003, Rev. Fr. Francis Kiliyampurackal, Regional Vicar, blessed the unfinished house in order to accommodate the candidates. On 31 May 2004, the Monastery was solemnly blessed and inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Andrews Thazhathel, Bishop of Trichur.
